We arrived that friday to the cabin. We did not have to set up any tents we only had to chose our rooms. We had a kithen which was very helpful. When we woke up we were able to do as we pleased. We could go outside and play in the snow, or even snow football! Or there were various activites we could do inside like ping pong which was very popular. We had nice dinner and afterwards had a desert contest between all of the patrols. It was very fun and I think the scouts would enjoy it as a treat somtime in the future.

At the Trukey Trot we got to really get to know the new scouts as their personality was showed in the various stations we had. We learned knots in a fun way, by building a catipult! We got to lauch a pumkin off of it too. Then, as always we played football for hours, and caputre the flag in the dark. But best of all was the food the scouts worked so hard to put together and then eat it with our familys. Then we chilled around the campfire while sharing some prime time skits. And then there was a clean up. It was very enjoyable as it is every year and we hope it is even betten next year.

We arrived at a musem and learned some interesting things about boats and a sailors life. But later we went outside to see the Niagara and how all the different parts of it worked and some interesting facts about its past. We also got to go down inside it and see the bedrooms of the people that work on it during the summer. Our tour guide sailed on the ship one time. It was a very cool and interesting trip and the scouts learned some interesting things about ships.

We came that friday night to set up and get ready for tommorow. The next day we would go down in turns to shoot the rifles and shoot guns. All of the scouts thought it was alot of fun. We had a good campfire and everyone was ready to go the next day without any problems. It was a very enjoyable trip that many would want to have again in the near future.

We arrived that friday night at a campsite with other troop camping next to us. When we woke up the next day we went to the caves and visited the public area of the caves. After that we were able to enter the unlit area underneath the public area. We had to supply our own light and wear helmets just in case. Some scouts took the climbing and repelling merit badge which was alot of fun and taught intersting material. Everyone had a good time and would like to try it again some time.

On Saturday, May 30th, and Sunday , May 31st, our troop went whitewater rafting at Ohio Pyle. We left early Saturday mornign with the hopes of a great day ahead of us, and we were not dissapointed! Most of the older scouts went on the intermediate course, while the younger scouts chose an alternative route to gain experience. That night, when all teh scouts assembled together, we set up our tents for the night and had a great campfire. Everyone agreed that this was an excellent trip worth repeating in the future.

On February 6-8, 2009, our troop went to Camp Anawana. The patrols were divided into cabins of Golden Eagles/ Sharks and Bravo/ Lightning, which competed as cabins to earn points. After breakfast, we played the fun game of Capture the Flag and had a snowball fight between cabins. In the afternoon, we went to various scout skill stations, which included leadership, lashings, and first aid. Dinner was delicious, and it was also a high item for points. The most important items for points, however, were the after dinner competitions. These competitions were the paper tower, the egg drop, and the spaghetti tower. After all of these competitions, Matt R, who was the judge for the food and the games, declared the Golden Eagles/ Sharks cabin the winner. Even though the Lightning/ Bravo Cabin had their own opinion about the outcome, everyone agreed that it was a great weekend!

In January we started our service project for the men's shelter.  The TLC prepared and served dinner for 36 men at the Pleasant Valley Men's Shelter on the Pittsburgh Northside.  We were able to take a tour of the shelter which was very interesting.  I learned about the different facilities at the shelter.  It has a kitchen, dining room and washers and dryers.  This was a worthwhile project.  The men at the shelter appreciated our help.  The TLC has decided to make this a regular troop project. A different patrol will be responsible for one meal each month.

Troop 81 traveled to Put-in-Bay, Ohio on Labor Day Weekend 2008.  After a three-hour trip, we boarded the Jet Express Ferry to take us to Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island.  The twenty-minute voyage was windy, but exhilarating.  Once on the Island, we joined nearly 1200 other Scouts from around the country in a Camporee to commemorate Perry’s victory over the British fleet in the War of 1812.  The campsite was amazing, situated at the base of the Commodore Perry International Peace Monument and overlooking the bay and marina on Lake Erie.  Bicycles were our mode of transportation as we covered the Island, visiting a winery, natural caves, a marine research center, restaurants, and shops.  Weekend festivities also included a firearms demonstration and parade.  Troop 81 proudly marched down Main Street with other troops in a formation that extended over a mile.  The balmy evening was topped off by stargazing and a special performance by the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.   The Camporee was hosted by Troop 360 of Port Clinton, Ohio, and their preparations, including the food, were first rate.

Troop 81 participated in the annual Valley Forge Encampment and Pilgrimage on Presidents Day weekend, 2008.  This event, which commemorates the bitter winter encampment of the Continental Army, is the oldest continuous Scout event in America.  When we arrived we set up our tents in a large open field along with hundreds of other Scouts.  The next day we got up bright and early and after breakfast, took busses out to a large outdoor amphitheater, and waited there to be addressed as to how the day would run.  After we left the amphitheater we went through several stations including very interesting and painful first aid methods used at Valley Forge.  After all of the stations we got to tour the Visitor Center museum at our own pace and warm up a bit inside as well.  After the museum we took busses back to our campsite and ate dinner.  We packed up as much as possible that night, then packed the rest up Sunday morning and left as early as possible.  All the Scouts agreed that it was a great campout.
